Want to see some really amazing sea creatures?

Watch this video.

David Gallo shows jaw-dropping footage of amazing sea creatures, including a shape-shifting cuttlefish, a pair of fighting squid, and a mesmerizing gallery of bioluminescent fish that light up the blackest depths of the ocean.

And it gets better than that!

Those Christians Are At It Again

Presidential candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee isn’t happy with the Constitution that has made the U.S. one of the greatest countries that has ever existed. He wants to violate the Constitution by making it reflect his own religious view of God.

“[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that’s what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards,” Huckabee said, referring to the need for a constitutional human life amendment and an amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Isn’t it just a tad unpatriotic to write violations of the First Amendment into the Constitution?

Meanwhile, there are those Christians who are blaming the spread of MRSA, the antibiotic-resistant “flesh eating” bacteria, on gays.

Epidemic Feared - ‘Gays’ May Spread Deadly Staph Infection to General Population

It’s like the early years of AIDS all over again.

MRSA is the result of attacking bacteria with antibiotics. Through the natural process of evolution and natural selection, the bacteria mutates into new antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. But since Christians for the most part reject evolution, even when evidence for it is happening right in front of their eyes, they blame gays.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are the price we pay for antibiotics which are an exceptionally valuable tool in fighting disease, just as drug-resistant HIV is the price we pay for drug cocktails.

Christians held up AIDS research for years by claiming that it was God’s punishment for homosexuality even though the vast majority of cases have always been in the heterosexual population.

Let me be blunt about this: Millions of people, including millions of children, have died because of the ignorance and anti-science views of Christians in the arena of HIV/AIDS, not to mention other diseases at other times in history. Must we new endure the same nonsense when it comes to MRSA?

How many millions will they kill this time?

What a catastrophe it would be for rational thought and science to have a president who would write such nonsensical premises into our Constitution. It should also be noted that Huckabee is on record and very proud of the fact that the doesn’t believe in evolution.

If you don’t accept evolution, it is impossible to understand diseases and how they impact the human population or how treatments can alter the disease causing pathogens by causing them to mutate and evolve into resistant strains.

Ron Paul on Evolution

Posted in Government/Politics, Religion, Science on December 28th, 2007 by Chip Gibbons

Presidential Candidate Congressman Ron Paul, MD, says that he doesn’t think there’s enough evidence to support evolution. You can see the YouTube video at Dispatches from the Culture Wars or go to YouTube directly and search for it.

In response to a question about whether he thinks the theory of evolution is true or false, he said he thinks it’s “a very inappropriate question, you know, for the presidency to be decided on a scientific matter.”

He adds that “it’s a theory…I don’t accept it.” He then goes on to talk about “the creator I know…that created every one of us and the universe…”

He concludes, “I just don’t think we’re at the point where anybody has absolute proof on either side.”

There’s a lot of evidence to support evolution and anybody who cares to look can see it happening in front of their very eyes. It can be objectively verified and continues to grow over time. There is absolutely zero evidence that any supernatural being created man and the universe, and to believe in such a thing one must discard scientific evidence. You can’t have it both ways.

Ron Paul is a very smart man, probably one of the smartest running for the presidency. He’s also an MD. It’s inexcusable that he holds such a view or even just saying it to get votes.

After eight years of George W. Bush who doesn’t know the difference between his beliefs and objective evidence, it’s a perfectly appropriate question for somebody running for any office, especially the presidency. In this video, Ron Paul has shown he’ll reject evidence and accepts myths with the same ease as Bush. Unfortunately, the same applies to the other candidates as well, but just in different ways.

Maybe “inappropriate” is his way of saying you shouldn’t ask this question because it puts me in the position of having to sound more religious than I am and having to say something I don’t believe just to win because I can’t win if I tell the truth.

He doesn’t seem to be worried about reactions on any other issue and refreshingly speaks his mind, politically correct or not. I have to think that if he thought evolution was true, he’d come out and say it.

Religion is poison for the human intellect. For more on that, and how mystical, irrational cultures select against rational people obtaining positions of power–Ron Paul is just more evidence–read my book.

Fruit Fly Science Suggests Possible Cure for Heterosexuality

Posted in Gay Interest, Humor, Science on December 15th, 2007 by Chip Gibbons

Finally, the long-awaited cure for heterosexuality may be on the horizon.

Research on fruit flies has uncovered a biochemical “switch” that can expand the sexual orientation of males from exclusively heterosexual to include homosexual conduct and then back again in a very short period of time.

This homosexual behavior could be induced within hours using inducible RNAi, suggesting that genderblind controls nervous system function rather than its development. Consistent with this, and indicating that glial genderblind regulates ambient extracellular glutamate to suppress glutamatergic synapse strength in vivo, homosexual behavior could be turned on and off by altering glutamatergic transmission pharmacologically and/or genetically.

Just imagine a world with no more children that are unwanted accidents and where abortion and birth control are completely unnecessary. The obsessively heterosexual types will have an option that is non-reproductive. When it’s time to start a family and have kids, they can just stop taking their homo pills.

Just imagine a world where gay men and women would be finally set free from militant heterosexuals who suffer the pain of their sexuality by attempting to force it on everyone, clinging to the belief that they “chose” their sexuality to please a God who would hate them or even kill them if they were gay.

Just imagine a world with a lot fewer tastelessly decorated homes.

Just imagine if sexuality finally became a choice in reality, not just in religious fantasy of choice. Would Larry Craig’s foot stop tapping in airport restrooms or would the population of foot tappers grow exponentially?
