Woodpecker Sighting

I went for a short walk this morning and saw a large, black, crow-like bird on a telephone pole. Then I noticed its spectacular red crown (officially called a crest) that looked like something you would see on a punk rocker. I also noticed some kind of stripes around the eyes.

Even Princess Di never had a crown as flashy as that.

It started pounding its long, sharp bill into the telephone pole and so I think, genius that I am, that I must be looking at a woodpecker. So I looked it up.

I didn’t get to look at him that long, but I think this is what it was.
